More than a month ago, Kérastase came to me with a challenge: to try out their new 90-day program, designed to optimise and reinforce the length of damaged hair. It’s called Resistance Extentioniste.

Truth be told, I always thought there is something iconic about long hair. Mythical even. And so I would torture myself, trying to achieve it, never succeeding. Tired of asking my hair dresser for an “almost invisible trim” to keep my hair healthy and my pride intact. And my lifestyle wasn’t helping either, always exposing my hair to extreme conditions (saltwater, sun, chlorine, wind, not to mention colouring). My lifestyle I couldn’t change, but I gave this line a try.

And within the first 10 days of use, I have noticed almost 100% less breakage and less split ends – which is the closest there is to a miracle. Without needing yet another trim, my hair got within the first 45 days longer – around 3 centimetres.

Rest. Strengthen. Repeat.

The new routine I obey to: what I would use first was Bain Extentioniste, a length strengthening shampoo for slow growing, damaged lengths. Then I would apply Masque Extentioniste for approximately 10 minutes, and then rinse it out carefully. And last, but most certainly not least, I would apply Serum Extentioniste, a strengthening scalp and hair serum for stronger fiber from the roots. These 3 products helped me change the way my hair feels and looks, from the roots to the very ends.

But what is it about this line that is so different? Why is it working, where all others did not succeed? At Kérastase they broke down the sections of hair and highlighted the necessary care for each stage as it grows to the desired length. And so, the Resistance Extentioniste routine targets roots, lengths and ends. It stimulates the scalp, then gently detangles lengths while reinforcing and finally sealing ends for hair that is as full and strong at the tips as it is at the root. That’s it!

Scalp

This is where it all begins. There is actually hair that you can’t see, still alive, already growing below the surface of the skin. As the hair’s foundation and vital source, the scalp must stay healthy to produce strong, long hair. Regular head massages featuring the Serum Extentioniste will make sure the scalp is activated and producing healthy hair.

Roots

Closest to the scalp, the roots are the “newest” portion of the hair. Usually quite healthy naturally, they can become oily or prematurely dry without the proper product mix. Focusing Bain Extentioniste here and keeping Fondants and Masques about an inch away from the roots will help balance this area of the hair.

Ends

Often a problem area, the ends of your hair have been with you the longest. They are the most likely to break, split or become dry and sensitized. Proper care and conservative trimming will keep even the longest hair strong at the ends. On an impeccably healthy head of hair, the ends match the roots in thickness and radiance. The way to achieve this goal is to visit your hairdresser for regular trims and Protocole Extensioniste to boost growth and maintain hair health from roots to ends.

Conclusion:

Am continuing the program, religiously, have a few more days until I have finally reached the 90th day. And I intend to use it two to three times a year, in order to keep my hair healthy and long.

Goodbye scissors. You most certainly will not be missed.
