To breathe new life into Aldo Cipullo’s Juste un Clou collection from the Seventies, Christian Larson has directed a refreshing film for Cartier. Featuring two young girls enamored by freedom, the mischievous and contemporary movie celebrates the new designs for 2017. Take a closer look at the bracelet (available in rose gold or yellow gold) paved with diamonds and the spectacular torque necklace in gray gold also paved with diamonds.

Aldo Cipullo, the creative mind behind Cartier’s iconic and bestselling Love bracelet in his very first year at Cartier New York, is without a doubt, one of the greatest jewellery designers in our modern times.

Not content with Cartier Love, Cipullo would two years later in 1971, create Juste un Clou, translated from French as “Just a Nail”.

A nail becomes jewelry. Designed in 1970s New York, the first Juste un Clou bracelet reflected a wild, freewheeling era. Bold, modern, and innovative, Juste un Clou is a creative twist on a familiar object. This jewelry collection transcends the everyday, making the ordinary exquisite, for him and for her.

With a design that was unmistakably a nail wrapped around a wrist, it was inspired by the designer’s love for hardware but was also a symbol of a non-conformist attitude. Jewellery was supposed to be fall elegantly on the body, but Juste un Clou stood out, literally and figuratively. It was a nail cast in 18K gold, hand pulled into a loop to become a bracelet, or a ring.

Juste Un Clou has a history that spans over 40 years. It’s the antithesis to the stolid jewellery of old and provides a window to the view of the design house’s flexibility and whimsy. The rugged design came to symbolize the “rebellious spirit and raw energy in New York City” at the time.

In 2012, Cartier produced an exhibition of Cipullo’s work and re-released the Nail bracelet in yellow, white and pink gold as well as a special version pavé set entirely with diamonds.

The JUSTE UN CLOU gold torque, set close to the neck for maximum impact, flaunts its radical credentials with a powerful statement of allegiance to a bold attitude.

Earlier this month, Cartier has once again breathed new life to the collection, presenting new pieces in a themed design exhibition called “When the Ordinary Becomes Precious” at the Salone del Mobile in Milan. Amongst the new selections is an oversized bracelet, as well as enlarged necklace, the Juste un Clou Torque.

Yes, Cartier has absolutely nailed it. Once again. Hands down.
